A few months ago, TIME Magazine recognized 100 ground-breaking inventions of 2020 that have made the world a smarter, better place. One of them was developed in the early months of the COVID-19 pandemic to provide support to infectious isolation rooms in hospitals. Here local HVAC repair contractor Broom Heating & Air Conditioning takes a look at the features of Carrier®’s one-of-a-kind product—the OptiClean™ Dual-Mode Air Scrubber & Negative Air Machine.
About OptiClean
The OptiClean is a portable negative air machine designed to convert normal hospital rooms into airborne infectious isolation rooms. A single unit comes with two pre-installed filters: a minimum MERV 7 pre-filter and a HEPA filter. The former needs to be replaced after 60 to 90 days, while the latter can last up to four years with normal operation and maintenance. The 99.97% efficient, long-life HEPA filter removes particles as small as 0.3 microns.
The heavy-duty motor, meanwhile, quietly removes filtered contaminated air from the room. This creates negative air pressure or a “vacuum effect,” which helps minimize the spread of indoor air contaminants into surrounding areas.
More Than Just Hospitals
As a leading heating and air conditioning company in the local area, we highly recommend OptiClean for commercial property owners. Along with hospitals and other medical facilities, it can also be used inside schools, retail stores and similar establishments. In these indoor spaces, the machine can be used as an air scrubber, pulling air in, removing many contaminants and discharging cleaner air back out.
OptiClean comes in two different sizes—500 and 1500 cubic feet per minute (CFM). Flexible and easy to reconfigure, it has a multi-function control panel that allows the user to select from low to high airflow and check whether one or both filters need to be replaced.
